The months after birth deserve
as much care as pregnancy

You have spent nine months preparing for birth. Everyone has advice about your pregnancy, opinions about your birth plan, and questions about your due date. And then your baby arrives — and suddenly the focus shifts completely to the infant, and you are left navigating recovery, feeding, sleep deprivation, and the most significant emotional transition of your life largely on your own.

The postpartum period is not a footnote. It is a critical season of healing, transformation, and adjustment that shapes how you feel about yourself, your relationship, and your baby for years to come. It deserves dedicated, expert, compassionate support — and that is exactly what we offer.

At Birthstone Women's Wellness, postpartum support is led by a California Licensed Midwife who understands that recovery is not just physical. Your mental health, your feeding experience, your sense of identity, and your relationships are all part of the postpartum picture — and all are welcome in our care.

A note on postpartum mental health

Postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and psychosis are medical conditions — not character flaws or signs of being a bad parent. They affect up to 1 in 5 new parents, and they are very treatable when identified and supported. We screen for postpartum mood disorders at every visit and provide warm referrals to qualified perinatal mental health specialists. If you are struggling right now, please know — you are not alone and you do not have to push through this. Reach out to us or contact the Postpartum Support International Helpline at 1-800-944-4773.

Postpartum care that fits
around new parenthood

We know that getting out of the house with a newborn is not always easy. That is why we offer multiple formats for postpartum support — so the format of your care never becomes a barrier to accessing it.

Whether you prefer to come into our Murrieta office for hands-on care, connect via video from your living room or nursery, or simply have questions you need answered quickly by phone — we are here and available.

Postpartum visits are available 7 days a week including evenings and weekends, because the postpartum period does not observe office hours. When you need support, we want you to be able to access it — not wait for Monday morning.

Our online booking page is available 24 hours a day for scheduling. And you can always call or text us at (760) 264-4077 if you are not sure what kind of visit you need or have an urgent concern.

Many postpartum services
are covered by insurance

Lactation counseling — which is integrated into all of our postpartum visits — is required to be covered as a preventive benefit by most insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act. Many postpartum visits may be covered at no cost to you.

We verify your benefits before every appointment so you always know what to expect. We accept a wide range of insurance plans across Riverside County and Southern California.

Your postpartum recovery is not a luxury. It is essential care. And it should never be limited by cost.

Frequently asked questions

When should I schedule my first postpartum visit?

We recommend scheduling your first postpartum visit within the first 3 to 5 days after birth if you have any feeding concerns, and within the first 1 to 2 weeks regardless. The earlier we can assess how you and your baby are doing, the more we can support your recovery and feeding journey before small issues become bigger ones.

What if I am struggling emotionally?

Please tell us. Postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and other perinatal mood disorders are medical conditions — not personal failings. We screen for these at every postpartum visit and provide warm, nonjudgmental referrals to qualified perinatal mental health specialists. You do not have to push through this alone. If you are struggling right now and need immediate support, you can also contact the Postpartum Support International Helpline at 1-800-944-4773.

Is postpartum support different from standard medical postpartum care?

Yes. Standard medical postpartum care typically includes a 6-week check-up with your OB or midwife focused on physical recovery and contraception. Our postpartum support fills in the significant gap between the day you leave the hospital and that 6-week visit — addressing feeding, mental health, newborn concerns, physical recovery questions, and the emotional adjustment of new parenthood in a dedicated, unhurried appointment.

Do you support parents who had cesarean births?

Absolutely. Cesarean birth recovery has its own specific physical and emotional dimensions that deserve specific support — incision healing, abdominal wall recovery, the emotional processing of how birth went, and the particular challenges cesarean birth can create for breastfeeding in the early days. All of these are part of our postpartum care for cesarean families.

How long can I continue to access postpartum support?

There is no strict cutoff. We support families throughout the first year after birth and beyond when needed. Postpartum mental health, feeding changes, sleep transitions, and the ongoing adjustment of parenthood do not resolve at 6 weeks. We are here for as long as you need us.
